I'm a native Brit married into a Spanish family. I'm CELTA & Masters qualified & have taught both English & Humanities. Before moving to Spain I gained around 20 years experience in various educational roles in the UK working with schools on community education programmes in London & Manchester.
I've been teaching in Spain for around 8 years - in companies, International Schools, Universities (UIMP & UV), academies, private classes, & with national & international consultancies as a self employed autonomo. My International School experience has included teaching Cambridge First & Advanced classes. & also Practical Ethics. For the latter I developed an interactive programme that mirrored the emerging curriculum area of Global Perspectives drawing on topical current affairs. I've taught various age groups & levels from students from age 8, teenagers (some elite athletes), newly qualified teachers, University Lecturers & International (Erasmus) teams & Senior Company Directors. At Masters level I studied Equal Opportunities in Education so I've had a long interest in how policies, practices & process might help or hinder a learner from reaching their full potential.
I specialize in developing tailored & creative learning strategies mainly aimed at helping upper intermediate & advanced students to improve their verbal dexterity & comprehension towards proficiency levels. I like to focus on Content & Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) where Active Learners help shape their learning in relation to English for a Specific Purpose (ESP) & especially towards their particularly interests so to maintain high levels of engagement & interest.
For this I also draw on my experience as a skilled curator of learning resources for use also outside of class. From my blogs you can see that I am passionate about education, music, literature, film, comedy sport, global & cultural perspectives on current affairs, practical ethics....all sorts. I'm a dedicated & curious lifelong learner & enjoy building rapport in classes, in particular with committed, inquisitive & ambitious students be they International Business people, Teachers, Academics, International Students, elite Sports people, aspirational parents etc. The outcomes should be that you, the learner, become confident in any work, study or social situation where previously you have felt out of your confident zone.
I am working as part of a learning community of teachers & students currently delivering one-to-one or small group classes online across Spain & beyond. For this we follow a collaborative approach with teachers also generating & adapting online learning materials for use on our own learning platform which also uses data to the track progress of all our students. This means that students can participate in my classes but also in classes with a team of qualified & skilled teachers thus being exposed to different demographics, cultural perspectives, accents, dialects & teaching approaches.
