My academic career has helped to establish a strong foundation and provide me with the skills necessary to succeed as an English Language Instructor. My undergraduate studies at the University of Kansas focused on Anglophone literature, from Beowulf to early 21st century British, American, and Postcolonial literature. I graduated from my MA program Magna Cum Laude, focusing on a synthesis of Lacanian and Marxist approaches to "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" by James Joyce at Ca' Foscari University in Venice, Italy. I have also furthered my educational background by completing a TEFL certification course through Canterbury English in 2008 and began working as an English Language Instructor immediately after that. The certification consisted of 100 hours of theoretical approaches to English Language acquisition, as well as 20 hours of practicum. Each of these has helped foster in me a student-centered approach to education, as well as provided me valuable insights into classroom management strategies and collaborative educational methodologies.

Furthermore, I have extensive professional experience teaching English and English Language and Literature. After completion of my TEFL certification, I began teaching first in Spain, then France, Romania, the United States, Italy, Austria, Portugal, and most recently in Slovenia. In 2012, I returned to the United States where I received a Massachusetts State Teachers License in English and Literature. The following school year, I worked at various high schools teaching English or foreign language courses across eastern Massachusetts. From I worked at Language Center International in Houston, TX, organizing and teaching classes, providing private courses curated for the needs of each student, and cultural and university preparatory courses to help international students transition into life in the United States. From the Autumn semester of 2014 until the Spring semester of 2016 I served as the university-selected tutor for the American English department at Ca' Foscari University. My responsibilities included the planning and execution of 30 hours of university-level English classes per semester. During the interim I gave private lessons, ranging from conversation classes to TOELF, Cambridge, and IELTS preparation. In the Autumn of 2015 I taught Business English for InLingua Steiermark in Graz, Austria, and from June until December 2018 I worked for EasyTalk Lisbon and Agile Training, focusing on Business English classes in the energy and technology sectors.

Finally, my professional experiences outside of the classroom help to make me an ideal candidate for this position. For four years I worked in tourism in Spain and Italy, meeting and guiding cultural and historical tours every day for people from all over the globe in the cities of Madrid and Sevilla, Spain, and Venice and Florence, Italy. This experience provided valuable insight into managing large groups of diverse people and how to curate my educational and pedagogical approach to various international points of view and cultures, all the while speaking publicly in either English, Spanish, Italian, or French. The skills I acquired from these experiences will greatly benefit me for this position, such as my capacity for public speaking, organizational skills, classroom management, and cultural sensitivity.
