"Student is not a container you have to fill but a torch you have to light up”
As a teacher, I believe this is one of the most important teachings, since it highlights that education is a means with a very specific purpose: encouraging students to discover their full potential.
I have developed this idea after several years of studies and experiences in the teaching field. This provided me all the best tools to face the challenges of teaching. I consider teaching as my passion not just a job, and I always put my efforts in maintaining a positive, caring, and enthusiastic attitude to encourage student’s self-confidence. I am very committed to create a good environment for all my students planning, organizing and creating new activities and study material. From a theoretical point of view, I really appreciate the communicative and humanistic approaches, but this is entailed in the lines above.
As private tutor I worked with students at the first grades. My tasks were to guide them in their social, emotional, and intellectual development across a wide range of areas. I had the delicate role to understand their needs and learning capabilities, to notice when a student feels discouraged, and to try to build up its confidence from there. Furthermore, during COVID outbreak I have been teaching together with an elementary school. Here my task was to plan, to organize, to prepare activities and materials for daily learning schedule. I have also led children in classroom activities, keeping senior teachers updated regarding their progresses.
During my career, I taught western philosophy and argumentation techniques to high school students through 1-2-1 lessons. I have followed two non-native speakers helping them to develop argumentative skills on how to construct correct reasonings, on how to clearly express themself, and on how to recognize fallacies in an argument.
Recently I moved to Sweden and I have realized that including the teaching of Italian as a foreign language would have been a great asset to my portfolio. I felt the need to depeen my knowledge and to further develop the best technical skills to address the different needs related to teaching. Therefore, I have been studying to get the specific diploma to do that (DITALS) at the University of Foreigners of Siena. This gave me the chance afterwards to work as teacher of Italian for the Italian language school “Apriti Sesamo”. Here I have hold a distance course for people living in and outside of Italy, matching the needs of each students throughout the best learning materials and contents. I built up the lectures and the exercises using specific online tools and resources.
Looking forward to start a fabulous journey through the Italian language with you!
