Giovanna

Hello, my name is Giovanna and I am a bilingual English and Italian speaker with over 15 years of experience living and working in the UK. I have a TOEFL qualification as I did my postgraduate studies in London and, in 2021, I gained my British citizenship.

My studies were in Political Science, International Relations and Human Rights. Since university, I have lived, travelled, studies and worked in many different countries and regions of the world, including Africa, the Middle East and Asia. For nearly 20 years I have worked for international organisations focusing on humanitarian work and children’s rights. I still work in this sector on a freelance basis for various humanitarian organisations.

I have worked for many years with children and young people in various settings and have grown a special interest in teaching and particularly in supporting the learning needs of others. In my work, I plan and design various types of learning packages and I am used to training and strengthening others’ capacities, including in English. This, coupled with my strong proficiency in and passion for in the English language, make me a dedicated tutor.

My teaching style is relaxed and informal.

I focus on conversational English to develop speaking and listening skills. I believe that it is important to have fun in lessons and engage in conversation on different topics. At the same time, I will focus on increasing your knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and functional language. I have always worked in UK environments and, being my family bilingual, I would be happy to share my skills and knowledge in colloquial English, always based on strong grammatical foundations.

Students have different ways of learning as well as different learning needs. With this in mind, I develop individual lessons to meet the specific needs of each student. Materials used may include verbal exercises, real-world situations, role-playing and simulation of the environment (business, academic, presentations, etc.).
