In an English lesson, there are two possibilities. For reaching a specific target such as moving up a level of English, or facing a certification exam, using a grammar book is the best way. These are fun, and targeted at bringing your level up in a measured manner with a 360-degree approach and coverage. For more general fluency lessons, or for specific needs, the lesson is completely flexible. I can use my cross-disciplinary experience to interact on a technical level with academics and researchers of all types, those who need to make a presentation or publish an article, or just generally bring up the level of their work-related English. In this case, I partly rely on the student to supply the material they want to work on, or I can custom design lessons with a particular field of study in mind. Conversational lessons are quite common, but they are best when one has goals and objectives. Then there's IGCSE. I taught Cambridge IGCSE courses for 9 years. I know the entire Biology Syllabus, and the first half of the Physics Syllabus. For IGCSE courses, I am willing to see small groups of high school students.
