Since I got my CELTA, I have been teaching for almost two years, honing my professional and interpersonal skills.
I have delivered lessons to students of all ages - from kids to adults, who had various background and needs - as well as different nationalities. I have taught Russians, Turks, Armenians and Georgians, which gave me an invaluable experience learning about different cultures and how to approach their representatives when teaching.
I have taught general and business English, as well as helped my students to achieve the desired score in both general and academic IELTS, necessary to obtain a visa to go abroad or study at a university.
In my lessons I try to choose the topics that interest my students and use a range of materials, including authentic ones. I also have a range of reliable students books, that have proved to be useful.
I believe that everybody is different and they require an individual method to help them progress and learn in the best possible way.
The main method I use in my teaching is eliciting the material - by this I mean that I don't just give my students a lot of theory to read in class. Instead, we discover the rules through example and guiding questions, which leave a more meaninful impact and tend to stay in memory for longer.
I also like to play educational games in class, as I feel they reinforce a positive attitude to English and they can be a great way to revise what has been learned in class.
