In spite of my name, I'm a native speaker, an American citizen who has been teaching English as a second language in American high schools for over thirty years. I have a master's degree in English Literature, and am currently teaching full time at a high school in Maryland, but I am fully licensed in California and Hawaii as well. I've also taught in Japan and Eastern Europe. I am an English teaching professional, with publications on teaching methods in an assortment of journals. I've made several presentations at International conferences of English teachers in Europe and the United States. I use a structured communicative approach to build skills in English conversation and vocabulary to get my students to thrive in daily conversations with English speakers. Automaticity is key: students will learn to respond to conversational prompts without having to translate in their heads, so they can have fun, genuine, free flowing conversations with native speakers. My goal as a teacher is to get students to the point where they can live and work in an English speaking country, or to build networks of friends and associates. What makes my method unique on this site is that it is bilingual: you can ask questions in Italian to a native English speaker about any doubts you have, be they points of grammar, or vocabulary, in Italian, and I'll have an answer for you. My Italian is nearly fluent, so you can expect a genuine, fun and wide ranging conversation: whenever you get stuck, you can ask for clarification in Italian. But the focus will always be English, from the first minute.
