Zuzanna Piskor

Hey there! I'm Zuzanna, an experienced TEFL and foreign language tutor with 3 years of private teaching experience, and a BA with Distinction in Modern Languages from Durham University. I am currently working full-time as an interpreter, and tutoring as a hobby with a view to teaching full-time.

My lessons are completely tailored to the needs of the student, and no two lessons will look the same. The first session is designed for me to get to know you and your current competency level and learning needs. This usually includes a brief conversation (if possible) in the target language and a grammar test which we will go over together to assess your competency, and a discussion of your language history, areas of struggle, prior knowledge and requirements. I will welcome your suggestions for a curriculum and take these into account. From there, I will develop a lesson plan unique to you which we will loosely follow, and I will adapt from lesson to lesson based on how you are progressing.

I like to take a practical, example-based approach in my teaching which will allow you to feel confident in using the language in the real world, not just on paper and in exams. I aim to spend as much of the lesson as possible speaking with you in the target language. I use all manner of resources, including grammar exercises, reading fragments of books and articles together, listening to fragments of television, interviews and music in order to help recognise the language in action, and others.

At the end of each lesson, I suggest material to revise based on the content of our session, and I love recommeding my students a range of resources to help them immerse themselves into the language and fuel a passion for learning. I truly believe that language learning is all about falling in love with the language and the culture that it comes from.

My past students range from adults with little to no knowledge of the language, children with an intermediate knowledge, and native English speakers looking for help with improving their grammar or eloquence for various reasons, such as competency exams.

I am currently working to formalise my TEFL qualification with a view to receive my certificate in July.
