my classes are based on student orientation. it means students must speak out their opinions and chat during classes. I am there as a counselor. and will help them whenever they have problems and classmates can not help. in grammar I use example of the intended grammar and ask students to provide more examples then step by step we go through the rule. and students need to use the same grammar and new words of the lesson in their homework for the next session to find out what parts they may not handle completely. for writing, students are encouraged to suggest topics which they are interested in and sometimes they write in the class and sometimes at home but in a standard style which they will learn in the class. for new words they need to make sentences and sometimes use the words in a short story which they use their imaginations to write or tell. I usually give my students CDs of short simple stories which they listen at home or in the class and re-narrate the story to the class which help them to learn correct pronunciation, speaking and listening. for reading they learn how to skim and scan a text without focusing on unknown words.
