I like to understand my students' interests and goals.
First of all, I examine the student's level and from there we make a plan together which includes reading, listening, writing practice, grammar etc.
Having been a student of foreign languages ​​for several years and knowing the situation from the point of view of someone who has to learn a language, I try to start as a coach from the student's interests and build lessons around interesting topics. For example, I recently worked with an Australian student, who was at upper intermediate level and was preparing for a trip to Italy. We had grammar lessons accompanied by reading and listening to YouTube videos on tourism in Sicily, one of his destinations on his upcoming trip. Furthermore, one of his interests was Italian cuisine, so I focused the last 10-15 minutes of class on reading Italian cooking sites and products from various regions and culinary traditions.
Connecting with my students' goals is one of the first steps to encourage them to learn with imagination, confidence and avoiding boring and obsolete paths.
