Are you tired of online lessons? Are you a young teacher and your students are easily distracted during class? Is teaching punctually interrupted by alleged technical problems with your students' microphones? Do you have the feeling that no one is really listening to you? Here are some tips on how to best deal with stress and how to create interesting lessons!

1) Check microphones

The first secret is to try to lead a fluent lesson without interruption. In order to do this, I always make sure before the lesson starts that everyone's microphones are working and their voice is clear.

If someone has problems it is not the end of the world: perhaps it would be smart and appopriate to dedicate a specific part of the lesson to that specific student not to compromise the fluidity of the lesson and the attention of all the others.

2) Give tha chance to open the camera

If the guys don't want to show themselves, that's understandable. My advice is to give them the chance to show themselves only if they want (even harder if they are girls who are ashamed to show themselves with no makeup on).

Showing themselves and distinguishing themselves from others will be a motivation for them to be better considered and valued.

3) Work on your presentations

The big secret is the type of presentations you prepare. The work can sometimes take a few hours longer than normal lesson preparations, but the feedback from students shows that it's always worth it!

Timed quizzes, games and riddles are the best way to make sure you get their attention. Promise the winner a fun reward (in my case, chocolate) as soon as physical return to school is planned - this will help the student ease the difficult transition from homeschooling to face-to-face classes.

A trick I have adopted is to ask students, indirectly, through some previous lessons, who their idols were: pop stars, youtubers, rappers or actors. Introducing their images and stories into the games will light up the their interest and the game will be "personalized" and more accessible.

4) Time

Give the students time. Even for some exercises, it is smarter to wait for them to work on the answers, and wait for them to raise their hand: the lesson will be more dynamic and efficient!

5) Empathy

Put yourself in the shoes of your students. They are in the midst of their educational process. Some of them are severely struggling. Only we can help them. And only they can help us.

Good luck!
